Thanks for asking.
We do in-home ABA therapy and Therapeutic Consultation for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis age 2-21. This service includes assessments, development of a comprehensive treatment plan and ongoing data collection. It includes ongoing ABA training for family members, teachers, caretakers and care professionals - anyone and everyone who is involved in supporting the individual. For in-home services, a highly trained and experienced (and fun) Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will work directly with your child.
Not yet. Right now we are only credentialed to be a Therapeutic Consultation provider through the Medicaid Waiver. We are working on getting credentialed with private insurance, one at a time. If you would like to consider services with us, reach out and we may be able to prioritize your insurance. We plan on accepting United Health, Anthem, Medicaid private and Aetna. We do not plan on accepting Cigna or Tricare. We are happy to discuss working with you as an out-of-network provider.
It is a team effort, composed of you and the people you pick to help- the family members, the caretakers, the teachers, the paraprofessionals. It doesn't have to complicated, but it does need to be collaborative. You will be led by the Krystle Curley, MS, BCBA, LBA. She is a a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)/ Licensed Behavior Analyst with 16 years of experience working with individuals 0-21 with Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnoses.
In home ABA services are provided by the RBT who works under the BCBA. They will have at least 1 year of experience and receive ongoing training and professional development.
A treatment plan is a written document that summarizes the results of the assessment(s) conducted and a step-by-step outline of the goals you have selected for the learner. It includes detailed instructions on how to implement the skill development programs, as well as what to do and how to act before, during, and after any challenging behavior the learner may demonstrate.
We can help with creating an environment where there is more of what we want to see (skills) and less of what you don't want to see (problem behavior). Examples of skills can include communication and self-advocacy, safety, toilet training and daily living skills, independence and leisure skills, social skill deficits and task learning. Examples of problem behavior might include aggression, self injury, property destruction, and elopement. Please note, we do not change behavior unless it directly benefits the kid. We ask ourselves, "Does this goal make this kid's life better? Will they be happier with this skill?" If the answer is yes, we can help.
It depends on what your goals are. Everyone is different. We know that time and energy are resources - ones that are often in short supply. At our initial consult, we can discuss your goals and how much time and energy you have available. We will make a plan that respects the resources that you have. Sometimes a little bit of ABA know-how and training can go a very long way. Some ABA programs may need a few hours a week, some may need more. Some families benefit from 2-15 hours a week, others may need closer to 30.
We serve children and adults ages 2-21 (up until they turn 22) with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis.
Currently we are serving Northern Virginia in Aldie, Chantilly, South Riding, Brambleton, Ashburn, Gainesville, Haymarket and surrounding areas. If you don't see your location on this list, please ask anyway! We are always expanding.
Yes. We believe that all behavior is communication - and that "problem behavior" is usually solving a problem for the individual. We figure out what that problem is, and teach the person to solve it in a more appropriate and safer way. Everyone deserves to get their needs met safely, with dignity, and in a way that feels right to them. If the learner is engaging in behavior that is life threatening or beyond the scope of this service, a referral will be made to a crisis center or other appropriate service on a case-by-case basis.
No. We do not have a wait list and have availability for new clients. If for some reason we are not able to fit you into our schedule at a time that works for you, we will offer to refer you to a known colleague who does. We recognize that many families have been waiting for services for a long time, especially post-pandemic. Because time spent on a waitlist is time spent without services, KidFirst ABA prefers to not have a waitlist. Exceptions are made by request.
To get started with Therapeutic Consultation, you need to have the CL or FIS disability waiver with Medicaid. Give us a call, DM or email to schedule an informational call. You may also want to connect with you caseworker for information about the waiver, Medicaid and other services that you may qualify for. If you don't have a caseworker and want one, we can help point you in the right direction. Start by googling your community services board (CSB) by county and call their number or send them an email. We look forward to connecting with you and being of service.
To get started with in home ABA therapy give us a call to discuss and we can direct you where you need to go (it is different for different people/insurance plans).
